Traffic Stop Nets Arrest and Drugs

On Monday, August 8th 2021, at approximately 12:30am, Lee County Sheriff’s Office uniform deputies responded to the intersection of US Highway 421 South and Cox Mill Road in reference to an overdose. Upon arrival, Deputies observed EMS personnel rendering aid to a male who was laying on the side of the road. EMS personnel administered Narcan to the male subject who regained consciousness shortly after the Deputies arrival. Deputies then spoke with Amber Nicole Nichols, age 42 of 216 Kauri Cliffs Drive in Fuquay Varina, who was with the male when he overdosed. Nichols admitted to Deputies that there was marijuana located inside of the vehicle, therefore Deputies began a search of the vehicle. Deputies concluded their search of the vehicle and discovered approximately 3 grams of marijuana inside of a metal container. At this point, Deputies asked Nichols if there was any other narcotics inside of the vehicle or on her person and Nichols confessed that she had drugs concealed on her person. Deputies requested that a female officer conduct a search of Nichols where she located a clear plastic bag containing a crystal like substance inside of Nichol’s belly button and a clear plastic bag containing a white powder substance was located in Nichol’s waistband. At this time, Deputies advised the on call narcotics agent who responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. Nichols was placed under arrest and transported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for processing. Nichols was processed and charged with one count of possession of methamphetamine, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Nichols was released under a $5,000 unsecured bond.
