Traffic Stop & Foot Chase Leads to Arrest with Multiple Charges

On January 5th, 2023, Agents with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division were conducting patrol on Edwards Road. Agents conducted a traffic stop on a tan in color vehicle failing to display a valid North Carolina registration plate. 

During the investigation, the passenger provided agents with a false name. Agents identified the subject as Frederick Donte Berryman (24) of Cameron, North Carolina. 

Frederick Donte Berryman had an active outstanding order for his arrest for failing to comply to report for active sentence when Mr. Berryman failed to report to Department of Corrections to serve his prison sentence that he had received. 

Upon Agents identifying his real identity, Frederick Berryman attempted to flee on foot and was quickly apprehended. While Agents attempted to arrest Berryman, he began resisting arrest and assaulting the arresting officers. 

Frederick Berryman was arrested and charged with two counts of Resisting Public Officer and two counts of Assault of Government Official. Fredrick Berryman was issued a $2,000 secured bond for Resisting Public Officer and Assault on Gov’t Official, and no bond on failing to comply to report for active sentence.
