Deep River Man Arrested For Various Charges During Traffic Stop

On Saturday August 7th 2021, at approximately 6:00 am the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Uniformed Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation. Deputies approached the vehicle and encountered Marshall Wayne Abernathy, age 40 of the 5000 block of North Lakes Drive, Sanford. Deputies discovered that Abernathy North Carolina driver’s license was suspended and also had an outstanding order for arrest out of Cumberland County. Deputies placed Abernathy under arrest and began to search his person when they located drug paraphernalia in Abernathy’s left rear pocket. Once deputies located the drug paraphernalia, Abernathy informed the deputies that he had crystal methamphetamine inside of his front right pocket. Deputies searched Abernathy’s front right pocket and located two clear plastic bags containing a crystal like substance. Deputies contacted the on call narcotics agent who responded to assist with the investigation. Abernathy was placed under arrest and transported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for processing. Abernathy was processed and is charged with one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine. Abernathy was jail under a $5,000 secured bond.
