On April 20th, 2021, Lee County Narcotics agents assisted the Broadway Police Department with a traffic stop in which suspects fled on foot from the vehicle after the vehicle pulled into a driveway and then intentionally struck a Broadway Police Officer’s patrol vehicle. During the course of the investigation, narcotics agents located approximately 83 grams of methamphetamine, 8 grams of psilocybin (mushrooms), and a small amount of marijuana in the suspect vehicle. Agents were able to obtain a positive identification of the second occupant, at this point warrants for arrest were obtained and Charles Allen Crews became a fugitive.
Megan Carol Hair of Bunnlevel was arrested on scene for possession with the intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance, possession of marijuana up to ½ Oz, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hair was transported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for processing on the above listed charges. Megan Hair was held under a $10,000 secured bond.
On Friday, May 21st, 2021, Lee County Narcotics Agents, assisted by the State Bureau of Investigation Criminal Apprehension Team, along with the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, arrested and served warrants for arrest that stemmed from an incident on April 20th, 2021, in Broadway, NC. Charles Allen Crews had been a fugitive from justice for approximately a month when he was captured in the Erwin/Bunnlevel area by Harnett, Lee, and SBI agents.
Crews was transported by agents to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for processing. Crews was served with warrants for trafficking methamphetamine by transport, trafficking methamphetamine by possession, possession with intent to sell and distribute schedule I controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony flee to elude arrest, fail to heed blue light and siren, and injury to personal property.
Along with the Lee County charges, Crews was served with an outstanding warrant for arrest out of Cumberland County for trafficking methamphetamine, and several orders for arrest out of Cumberland County for failure to appear on charges of possession of firearm by felon, resisting public officer, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, and possession of marijuana.
During Crews’ capture, he was also found to be in possession of a firearm. While in Lee County custody, Harnett County Sheriff’s deputies secured a warrant for arrest for possession of firearm by felon.
Crews was held under a $250,000 secured bond for Lee County Charges, and a cumulative $433,000 secured bond for charges in Lee, Harnett, and Cumberland County. Crews was also served with a parole warrant, and was held without bond.
