Joint Operation Nets Arrest & Drugs

Late Thursday afternoon, October 21, 2021, at approximately 6:20 pm, Lee County Sheriff’s Office narcotics division and the Durham County Sheriff’s Office narcotics division ended a joint investigation by executing search warrants simultaneously in both counties, on the same individual.


Lee County Sheriff’s Office narcotics division executed a search warrant on the property located at 406 Key Road, Sanford. Upon entry agents found the residence was not occupied. Agents completed a thorough search for occupants and immediately began search the residence for controlled substance. Agents later located the home owner who walked down the road from family member’s residence. The owner Robert Wayne Towler, was detained by agents during the course of the search, and investigation. During the course of the search agents located and seized approximately 7.2 pounds of marijuana, and 10 grams of cocaine. Further into the search and investigation lead to the discovery of cut away part of the floor inside the residence. Agents removed a panel attached to the floor by screws, which lead to the crawl space area under the residence. Agents went down into the space and located a large amount of United States currency hidden inside of a green military style ammunition can.

 age 49, owner of 406 Key Road, Sanford was transported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for processing. Durham County Sheriff’s Office narcotics agents reported that in the course of the search warrant execution in Durham, agents had discovered and seized approximately one pound of marijuana, and 435 grams of cocaine.  Once at the office agents processed and charged Towler with one count of felony possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, one count of felony possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana, one count of felony maintaining a dwelling place for the storage and sells of illegal controlled substances, and one count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Robert Wayne Towler was jailed under a $20,000.00 secured bond. Robert Wayne Towler was not processed nor charged as of this time for the narcotics seized by Durham County Sheriff’s office agents.
